I loved drawing, painting and making when I was a child and I am thankful that I have been able to carry this into my adulthood.
In 2017, I attended printmaking classes at Thames-side Print Studio, and I fell in love with the process of indirect and direct intaglio printmaking; etching. I became a member in 2018 and continue to practise printmaking.
Using dip pens, inherited from my grandfather, I draw directly into the hardground, this achieves a lovely delicate sensitive line, which when etched is very truthful to the original marks made. I also use other techniques, such as aquatint, mezzotint, scrapping and burnishing and dry point.
I love the process and the problem solving, always learning something new, how different metals etch with different timings. How to handle, protect and preserve metal, the use of soft and hard grounds, aquatint, creating surface tone, how different metal affects coloured inks and using different colour combinations and textured paper.
In short, it makes me happy!
